Many parts of Cape Town are unsafe enough to avoid during the day or night. Yet, tucked away in False Bay, the city's safest police precinct is Ocean View. While the precinct includes areas like Masiphumele and Ocean View, historically considered townships, it also includes Noordhoek, Kommetjie, and Scarborough. The City of Johannesburg reached a 3.5% crime rate for the 12 months ending March 2026. Most of these are violent crimes. Safety is sought after. But that safety may not come from the postcodes you might expect. Instead, Johannesburg's safest police precinct is Mondeor. Johannesburg's Safest Precinct Based on South African Police Service (SAPS) crime data and 2022 census data, the precinct has a 2.80% crime rate. Most of the reported crime is commercial and business-related. These include shoplifting and robbery at non-residential premises. However, residents also have to contend with aggravated robberies, including carjacking and robbery at residential premises. Theft from vehicles and residential burglaries remain high, but are trending downward. Mondeor hasn't always been as safe as it is today. Crime is down 18.6% over the last 10 years.
